INSTITUTE

The institute functions in a modern earthquake resistant building which houses Director and Deputy Director's chambers, Administration and Finance office and Scientist's rooms and scholars have been provided with well spacious common rooms. GUIDE has a conference hall which can accommodate more than hundred delegates and also a Board room. It also houses biological, chemical and analytical laboratories, library and herbarium.

 
LABORATORIES

GUIDE has state of the art Environmental-Chemical-Analytical laboratories to facilitate the analyses of Air, noise, water, industrial waste water and sludge, and soil from diverse environmental conditions. In addition to in house analysis of samples from research projects, samples from local agriculturists, industrial sectors, other NGOs and research institutions were also been analyzed in the laboratory.

It also addresses and facilitates qualitative and quantitative analyses of marine fauna & flora from different marine/coastal habitats (benthic, Pelagic, intertidal, subtidal), different physical and chemical analyses of seawater and sediments could also be carried out.

Laboratory 2

In addition to the basic instruments for routine environmental sample analysis, the laboratory is also equipped with Respirable Dust Sampler (RDS) and PM2.5 Sampler for examining the Respirable and fine fraction of the particulate matter in ambient air, and stack sampler for monitoring of stack emissions. Our instrumentation center has modern equipments such as Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS), UV-Spectrophotometer, Flame Photometer, instrumentation kits to analyze nutrients, heavy metals, and productivity on site. GUIDE proposes to expand the capacity of the laboratory by procuring new instruments with assistance from Ford Foundation India, New Delhi and Education Department, Gandhinagar.

GIS & REMOTE SENSING CELL
GIS & RS facilitates research activities related to biodiversity, land use, soil, geology, hydrological regime. The cell is well equipped with latest GIS based software including ArcGIS 9.3, ERDAS imagine 9.0, Idrishi Kilimanjaro, Cartalinx along with basic software and databases. Till date the cell has mapped various thematic layers of landscape features of Gujarat in general and Kachchh region in particular.
