To set up an institute for research on arid and semi-arid regions of Gujarat, the Gujarat Ecology Commission - GEC signed a MoU with Jacob Blaustein Institute of Desert Research, Israel in September 1993. Prof. Uriel Safriel, Head- Mitrani Centre for Desert Ecology, Israel visited Kachchh in May 1994. Based on his expert advice Gujarat Institute of Desert Ecology (GUIDE) was established in May 1995 and registered as public trust and society.

MISSION

The GUIDE will catalyse the process of ameliorating human
misery in desert ecosystems, following sound ecological
principles and carefully using scientific knowledge,
imaginative technology and capital.
